A man broke two gates and forced his way into the Ooni of Ife's house

A yet-to-be-identified man on Tuesday evening broke two gates and forced his way into the compound where a house occupied by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, was located in his Ile Oodua’s palace in Ile Ife.

According to sources, several gunshots were heard around the palace and one man was said to have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Also speaking to news men, a source who refused to disclose his information in Enuwa said an unidentified man came with a Mercedes Benz carrying two passengers tried to gain entrance into the palace as at about few minutes to 7pm.

It was gathered that the men on guard at the entrance denied the man entrance into the palace and asked that he parked the vehicle.

“But before they could check the vehicle, two of the passengers had disembarked and ran away, while the driver forced his way in. He hit the first gate and drove straight towards where Ooni lives.

“He also succeeded in breaking the second gate and was already near Ooni’s residence. He later disembarked. The man was dressed in a long robe and had a dog with him.

The dog which the man came with was shot dead while security men accosted the man and got him arrested. He was taken to the Moore Police Station in Ile Ife.

Calls were put through to reach the Ooni's spokesman but he could not be reached as his mobile lines were not reachable. Text messages were also sent to him.

Meanwhile, someone in the palace, who wouldn't want his name to be mentioned because he is not in position to speak on the matter, disclose that a man tried to forcefully gain entrance into the palace but was arrested by security men on duty. He said the incident was never an attack on the Kabiyesi or the palace as being said by people, that the gun shots was when they shot the dog.

Effort to also reach Spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola was unsuccessful as the phone kept ringing and no response.
