BREAKING: COURT AFFIRMS JULIUS ABURE AS LABOUR PARTY CHAIRMAN, FINES LAMIDI APAPA The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has affirmed Julius Abure as the Chairman of the Labour Party (LP). The court also set aside the decision of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court which last year, restrained Abure and two others from parading themselves as national officers of the party. In the judgement delivered by Justice Hamma Barka on Wednesday, the Appellate Court held that the high court was wrong to have assumed jurisdiction on the matter. The Appellate Court also awarded a cost of One million Naira in favour of Abure and against the respondent, Lamidi Apapa. It will be recalled that Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court had last year, granted and ex-parte order, ordering that Abure and two other national officers stop parading themselves as leaders of the party for allegedly forging national documents but the Appellate Court set the verdict aside...

FG, CBN deny plans to convert $30 billion domiciliary deposits to naira The Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) have denied that there are plans to convert $30 billion domiciliary deposits to naira. This is a reaction to reports that the Federal Government and the apex bank were considering converting domiciliary accounts to naira as part of measures to solve the foreign exchange (forex) crisis and stop the crash of the naira. This disclosure is contained in a statement by the Minister of Finance and the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, on Saturday, where he said there was no iota of truth in the report, dismissing it as falsehood. One of the survivors identified only as Alhaji Mohammed said, “When the spark started, it was from the electricals and I brought out my fire extinguisher trying to help. My neighbour told me that it had passed an extinguisher and we needed to call the fire service.  The explosion in Ibadan Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde speaks on the Ibadan blast We visited the scene of the explosion which occurred at about 7.44 pm yesterday, 16 January 2024 in Bodija, Ibadan. This unfortunate incident resulted in death and injury to residents in the vicinity and also affected properties. We have already deployed first responders and all relevant agencies within Oyo State to carry out comprehensive search and rescue operations. These operations will continue throughout the night. Earth moving equipment, ambulances, emergency lights, and security were deployed to the scene of the incident. The wounded and injured are being treated and moved to public and private hospitals within Ibadan. Medical personnel are on standby at these hospitals to provide all needed assistance to the injured.
