Popular Nigerian rapper and record label owner, Remilekun Abdukalid,  better known as Reminisce, says he took a one-year break from the Nigerian music scene so he could live a normal life.

The 38-year-old rapper, who made his Nollywood debut in 2018 after featuring in Kemi Adetiba’s ‘King of Boys’, said he wanted a break from wondering what the next single or endorsement would be.

“I’m back from my leave. I took a one-year break to spend some time with my wife and kids. I wanted to enjoy life as a regular guy and not having to think about what the next single or video is going to be. I wanted to put off bothering myself as to whether or not a song was a hit,” he told Silverbird TV in an interview.

“I just wanted to be a regular human being cause I’ve been doing the same thing for seven, eight years: putting out music, endorsements, and shows. It was like facing the same issues every day. I just wanted to drive my kids to school and live a normal life. But I’m back generally in the full scheme of things.”

Following the success of ‘King of Boys’, Reminisce said he would be exploring more acting roles.

“My role in King of Boys has been positive, although, acting is a whole new territory I’ve never been in or explored,” he said.

“Many scripts have been coming since I did that one but I don’t want to work on just anything. I’d rather take my time and read through scripts before opting for any.

“Nigerians are beginning to tell their stories and there are a lot of wonderful producers and scripts out there too. But I’ll just wait for whichever I think I’ll be able to execute properl

Meanwhile, the rapper had earlier given reasons why most musicians don’t feature in Nollywood movies despite the growth and popularity of both sectors and practitioners globally.

The King Of Boys star said the music industry obviously pays better than movie industry and it becomes a big task to get the music stars to feature on low budget movies.

“The music industry pays obviously than the movie industry in Nigeria. We also don’t have a lot of big budget productions like that so it’s difficult to engage musicians except some of them that want to do it for love or support. You know it’s really difficult to tell someone who is used to certain amount to come and do the movie shoot for a lesser amount, you know, he will definitely turn you down,” Reminisce said.

Speaking further, the rapper said aside the budget, the right script also remains a major reason why any musician would want to be in a movie.

“But it’s beginning to happen because we are now having big budget productions in the movie world right now, so you guys will get to see more of musicians in movies and hopefully for the right scripts and not for the money so that we can create great impression or because you have fans allover but get musicians the right script and hopefully they execute very well,” he said.
